Chequers297 High Street
An imposing building set at a fork in the road that also houses the village war memorial. Owner Greg reopened the Chequers in August 2013. Food is very much at the heart of its operation. Of the two rooms, the lower one is purely a restaurant, it also has a fine old fireplace. The upper room has a small drinking area at one end and tables set for food at the other. Pale walls and beige carpets throughout. The attractive decking, patio and grassed rear garden is accessed through the lower room. Food is simple but good using locally-sourced ingredients. Pizzas from an outside wood-fired oven are available Thursday to Saturday. Food on Sundays are traditional roasts. Beer and cider festival with live music in the first weekend in July. Although still owned by the former licensee, since October 2017 the has new licensees who formerly ran the Waggon & Horses in Milton as Osteria Waggon & Horses.
