Large, thatched, grade II listed building dating back to the 17th century with original wood beams. A central island bar has seating areas around it and there is a dining area to one side. There is further seating in an additional room and a separate restaurant has been developed in a restored and renovated barn. The AA 4-star accommodation consists of five rooms in a newly built detached block. There is a house beer: Red & Black, brewed for here and the sister pub (the Red Lion, Hinxton) by Nethergate brewery. The three guest beers are generally East Anglian. As well as lunchtime and evening food, breakfasts (pre-booking required for non-residents) are also served everyday. Its food ranges from sandwiches (lunchtimes only) to a la carte fine dining. The pub and its food have received awards from other organisations.
