Clarendon Arms35-36 Clarendon Street
Cosy, welcoming two-bar local. "Proper pubs" like this are a rarity in the city centre. The Clarendon was taken on by Laurence Dixon (of the Champion of the Thames fame) in 2013. The right hand room has a bare boarded floor and half timbered walls. It is mainly used for dining. The main bar is on two levels, the upper one having a stone flagged floor. Out the back is a small sun-trap courtyard. Home made, locally sourced food is served most lunchtimes and evenings.
