Emperor21 Hills Road
Formerly the undistinguished Globe, this pub reemerged in late 2009 having been taken on by the licensee of the Empress. The single bar has smart, unfussy decor with bare-boarded floors and an interesting selection of framed photos of local scenes. A dartboard and pool table occupy one corner. There's also a large function room plus an outside drinking area which in summer 2011 was transformed into a beach! Live music Friday and Saturday plus open mic night Thursday. Wide range of interesting food served. In spring 2015 it was taken over by Oskar who plans to spruce it up and make more of its position on the main route between the rail station and the historic heart of the city. We will do a full resurvey once things have settled down.
